herd index,
herd hierarchy, All herds work the same in the matter of their hierarchy. There is a king and/or a queen and their herd, the main herd, at the top. The subherds have no steady order, but the stallions can earn favor or fight for dominance over other subherds. Within each subherd, or the main herd, there is a lead. In the case of the subherds, only a stallion may lead, but due to royal choice or bloodline, it is possible for a herd to have a queen without a king. The mate of any lead, whether royal or otherwise, is decided by the lead themselves. In the case of the main herd, upon the death of both leads, the prince or the princess chosen by the last remaining lead before the time of their death takes the lead position. If no prodigy is chosen, then the oldest takes the throne. If none of the royal family is left alive, then the subherd stallions are welcome to fight in a tournament to allow their herd to merge with the remaining main herd and become the king themselves.

the fiele the horses, The Fiele are also known as the Rainhawks. They thrive near the ocean, making them strong swimmers. Many have powerful haunches for jumping up the cliff ledges to reach the caves they use as shelters. Those who have the stamina and strength to reach it to the top caves are known as the cliffjumpers, and they are respected as the nobles of the Fiele. They are a very closeknit herd and many of the subherds roam throughout the day, but always return to shelter at the caves with the main herd. They are often quite brave and they take pride in their somewhat unorthodox living style.
the resources, All the small streams of the other herdlands begin from the rivers that run through the Fiele lands, and all of those come from the ocean. As such, they have the plentiful water supply, which so happens to be going down with the current unexplained catastrophes. The caves provide a reseanable shelter, though they can be cold and damp and the wind blows the rain in quite a ways, so only deep caves provide full shelter. The food is an issue. They have only sparse grass and weeds on the cliff, as well as seaweed washed in from the ocean.
the enemies, The Fiele have always been a bit uneasy with the Kethali. Perhaps this tension would be lessened if they did not share a border, but that is an inescapable truth to the matter. The Falcon Plains, with all their lush grass, is constantly just out of the reach of the Fiele and it taunts them.

the kethali the horses, Also known as the Windshadow herd, the Kethali are strong and fast runners for the most part. They are well fed and, although they meet up occasionally, they mostly spread out through the Plains. They enjoy stories and storytelling, with the foals often daring each other to see how close they can get to the Black Hollow. Many of them are "scatterbrained", dreamers or crazies according to the other herds, and they tend to avoid playing trick on other horses.
the resources, Due to the vast, grass filled plains, the food here isn't much of a worry. Unfortunately, there are patches of grass that has begun to wilt, which is a bit of a concern, though it isn't gone enough to be much of an issue yet. There are a few streams that run through and, although most of them are muddied from soft river banks and the quick flow of the water, they make due with what they have. Shelter from the weather is a problem, however. There are very few trees and they are all spread out. The Black Hollow would provide shelter, but no one dares go near it.
the enemies, THe Kethali made an easy enemy of the Koehaer. Why? Well, the Kethali are the tricksters, and who better to play tricks on than the superstitious? They're wedged in between the Koehaer and Fiele, so they have easy access to either herd, but they more often than not ignore the Fiele, for they are "far too serious".

the koehaer the horses, The horses of Earthsong, the Koehaer, have excellent balance for the most part. They have to in order to run through the tangle of roots and branches of their land. However, even so, they are limited in space to jump and run and often it is only their talent in avoiding things, such as branches and flying hooves, that saves them in a fight, not their strength or speed. They tend to be so superstitious that some of them are labeled as eccentric. Ghosts, gods, telepathy.... they believe it all. There's no solid proof that any of it is more than a belief, though. They live spread out, often not seeing other subherds for weeks at a time.
the resources, Due to the massive amounts of trees and the tangles of the branches overhead, the whole forest is one large shelter. Unfortunately, the leaves are falling for no reason, leaving gaps and holes for wind and rain to slip through and make the lives of many residents relatively miserable, as they aren't used to it. There is a large amount of poisonous plants in the forest, but there's a decent amount of foliage that is safe to eat as well, if you know where to look. The streams that run from the ocean, through the Fiele and Kethali lands, however, don't extend too well into the Koehaer lands and water is a rare resource.
the enemies, They can manage just fine on their own, except there isn't really enough water to go around. Before, they had to travel a ridiculous length to get to water, but now they have been cut off and they don't have enough. This has fostered a deep hatred for the Fiele. However, this hasn't led to war quite yet for the sole reason that most of the Koehaer believe that their gods will save them and send days of rain to replenish the water and restore the peace.

the free the horses, The horses vary, but most live on their own or in very small groups. Their personality are vastly different, and their builds are as well. The only thing they usually have in common is that they have not joined a herd yet.
the resources, The Free have a bit of everything, but in small quanities which are even smaller now. There is a small grove of trees for shelter, a meadow for food and ends of a few streams for a little bit of water. They have so little now that many have been forced to join a herd in order to stay alive.
the enemies, They have no enemies; they have not banded together and as such are not a threat. Most don't hate the herds, they just don't want to be a part of them.
